New 1,3-diaza-2-phospha-cyclohexane derivs. are of formula (I) (where R1 is alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl; and R2, R3 R4 and R5 are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl or aryl). (I) are phosphorous analogues of barbituric acids. Specific cpds. (I) include 1,3-di-n-propyl-2,4,6-trioxo-2-ethoxy 1,3-diaza-2-phospha-cyclohexane. In an example, this is prepd. by reacting malonyl chloride with phosphoric acid ethyl ester bis-n-propyl-amide in Et2O.
