1527058 Automatic control of I.C. engines FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 17 Dec 1976 [19 Jan 1976] 52891/76 Heading G3N [Also in Division F1] A control system for the operation of an E.G.R. valve in an I.C. engine consists of a vacuum motor which is supplied with alternating vacuum and atmospheric pressure into chamber 26 by means of solenoid valve 38 which is supplied with a pulsating current output from control circuit 120 so that an average vacuum is provided in chamber 26 defined by the mark/space ratio of the current. The movements of the throttle valve 15 and E.G.R. valve 19 are signalled by potentiometers 62, 16 respectively and the voltage tapped off compared in a comparator (74) Fig. 3 (not shown) which supplies solenoid 38. Potentiometer 62 has a thermistor 66 in its supply lead so that the tapped voltage varies with engine temperature. In the embodiment described a further comparator supplies a solenoid actuator which retards the ignition timing when full power is required. At the same time the solenoid 38 is de-energized so that the E.G.R. valve is closed. The mounting of a carburetter on top of an E.G.R. valve spacer is described, Fig. 2 (not shown) and the various electrical components and operating linkages are shown. |
