1,245,804. Recovering rhenium values. KENNECOTT COPPER CORP. 12 Sept., 1968 [13 Nov., 1967], No. 43509/68.. Heading C1A. Rhenium values are recovered from an aqueous solution containing rhenium and other metals by contacting the solution with an ion exchange medium to effect the transfer of rhenium values from the aqueous solution to the ion exchange medium, removing the rhenium from the ion exchange medium by contacting the medium with an aqueous solution of a thiocyanate thereby effecting the transfer of rhenium values to the thiocyanate solution and recovering the rhenium bearing thiocyanate solution. The thiocyanate solution is preferably an aqueous solution of ammonium, potassium or barium thiocyanate. The ion exchange medium may be a quaternary ammonium chloride in kerosene or an anionic exchange resin. The thiocyanate is preferably a solution of ammonium thiocyanate and the recovered rhenium bearing ammonium thiocyanate may be evaporated to ammonium perrhenate. The solution is preferably evaporated until crystals of ammonium perrhenate begin to form, and is then cooled. The concentration of the thiocyanate may be such that in contact with the rhenium bearing ion exchange the corresponding perrhenate is precipitated.
|
