<p>The marine log and echo-sounder adapter consists of an impeller wheel attached to a vessel, the revolutions of the wheel being proportional to the distance covered by the vessel. Indication can be via a flexible drive or by means of electronic pulse counting systems. The impeller may be of metal, plastic or wood. The log may be coupled to an echo-sounder by means of a flexible drive and reduction gearing or through electronic control of drive motors e.g. thyristor switching of electric motor armature and stator currents, to control the registration speed of the echo-sounder. By a suitable reduction ratio between the log and the shift mechanism of the echo sounder, a registration rate is obtained which is proportional to ship's speed thus providing a representation of the seabed profile.</p> |
