A blood circulation stimulating device has a housing (50) which surrounds a flexible bellows or bladder (52). The housing (50) has inlet (58) and outlet (60) attachments which permit intermittent inflow and outflow of blood. A pneumatic system is formed by other devices (10,66) part of which is formed by the housing (50) and bladder (52). A pressure impulse generator (36) operates the pneumatic system in a rhythmic fashion and a pressure relief valve is provided to prevent pressure overload in the pneumatic system. The bladder (52) is exposed to a rhythmic pressure loading which causes it to act as a form of pump.
