A printing and processing apparatus comprises a first enclosure 11 housing a lamp 18 which serves as a source of both light and heat. The light passes through a condenser system 22 and through an aperture 17 in the wall 16 of the enclosure. Across aperture 17 are mounted side rails (28, Fig.3, not shown) for holding a slide mount (29) carrying the negative or transparency. A second enclosure 35 has on one wall 47 a pair of side rails 45 into which can be slid a holder for a light-sensitive sheet, which is exposed through an aperture 48 in wall 47. On the opposite wall 36 of enclosure 35 a mounting 33, 34 carries an objective lens. The two enclosures 11, 35 are connected together by rods 37 which allow relative movement between the two, so that the magnification may be varied. Within enclosure 35 a mirror 39 is mounted on an axial pivot 40, so that it may be swung entirely out of the light path when a print or enlargement is to be made. When it is interposed in the light path, as shown in Fig. 2, the image of the negative is reflected on to a viewing screen 42, and to facilitate viewing, this part of the apparatus is tilted as shown. (The apparatus may be used as a contact printer by putting both negative and light-sensitive sheet together into the holder which slides between rails 45.) The apparatus is envisaged as being used for making prints which can be developed by heat only, and the first enclosure 11 is adapted for this purpose. It has an arcuate metal top 12, on which the exposed sheet is placed and held in close contact by a transparent screen 14, hinged to the top along one edge and having a handle 15 at the other edge. Thus the sheet is developed by heat from lamp 18, and the degree of development can be controlled by visual inspection through the transparent screen 14.</p> |
