1480004 Work supporting apparatus TH KIESERLING & ALBRECHT GmbH & CO KG 15 Oct 1975 [16 Oct 1974] 42282/75 Headings B3B B3E and B3M Workpiece supporting apparatus for a scalping and/or straightening machine comprises a channel assembly formed by a plurality of longitudinally spaced groups 2 of profiled elements, 3, 7 and 25, and 16, 14 and 10 and 26, 27 and 28; the elements 16, 27 and 3 are fixed to a base structure and are spaced longitudinally relative to the workpiece (ie. bar or tube), the elements 10, 28, 25 are pivotally mounted for simultaneous operation on a shaft 6 and the elements 14, 26 and 7 are similarly mounted on a shaft 5, the pivoting action of co-operating elements being in an iris-diaphragm like manner and is effected by respective piston and cylinder units 17, 18. The pivoting elements 14, 26 and 7 are each connected to a lever member 11 attached to a feed plate 9 with a shoulder stop 34. A workpiece 24 is displaced from the stop 34 by the lever 11 by the pivotting of the aforesaid elements 14, 26 and 7 by their respective piston and cylinder units, the workpiece moving along a cam surface 12 on the plate 9 and abutting an arm, e.g. 8 in Fig. 2 of the pivotable element 14. The piston and cylinder units are then pivoted in the opposite direction to allow the work to roll gently into bottom of the fixed elements 16 27, 3 and 29. The respective cooperating pairs of elements 14, 10 &c., are then pivotted simultaneously towards each other as shown in Fig. 3 to grip the workpiece 24 in an iris like movement and effect any mirror straightening thereof prior to feeding the workpiece to the scalping or straightening machine proper. The pivoting of the elements permits the apparatus to accommodate workpieces of widely different size cross-section and reduces noise and wear due to workpieces falling into the apparatus. |
