<p>1480014 Making extruded profiles from consolidated scrap RIKEN KEIKINZOKU KOGYO KK 9 July 1975 [10 Dec 1974] 28850/75 Headings B3A B3H and B3P A method of making extruded structural profiles from aluminium based scraps 1 comprises breaking up the scraps into chips 6, charging the chips into a press housing 29, compacting them into a substantially cylindrical body 24, heating the body and placing it in an extruder housing 44, exhausting air from the housing and extruding the body into a structural profile. The scraps 1 are rolled into plate form 3 and then broken into chips 6 in a crusher 5. The chips are washed at a station 12 in, e.g. in trichlorethylene vapour or nitric acid followed by a water rinse. The washed chips are dried at a station 13 by infra-red lamps 14 and they are subsequently fed to a heating station 15. The chips are heated in a rotary cylinder 18 to above 300‹ C. and then compacted at a shaping station 21. The press housing 29 is evacuated via a bore 28 by a vacuum device 23 with a punch 22 sealing the bore of the housing. When the desired vacuum level is reached a plunger 26 is raised to close the bore 28 and the punch is driven downwardly to compact the chips into the cylindrical body 24. The housing 29 is provided with an internal heating device and the body 24 is ejected from it by the plunger 26. In an alternative construction, Fig. 3 (not shown), the bore of a press (33) is evacuated through its bottom surface and the housing and ram (39) of the press are both reciprocable so that after compaction the housing is raised by hydraulic means (38) while the ram remains stationary thereby facilitating removal of the body from the press. The extruder housing 44 is exhausted by vacuum means 23 and the heated body 24 is extruded by a ram 45 through an extruder die (47), Fig. 2 (not shown) while air is exhausted through passage 48.</p> |
