1480380 Resilient mountings; bearings DAIMLER-BENZ AG 22 Aug 1974 [25 Aug 1973] 37019/74 Headings F2S and F2A [Also in Division E2] A pivot bearing for a component 14 executing angular movements relative to a fixed part 29, e.g. independent wheel suspension in a vehicle, comprises concentric inner and outer sleeves 2, 13, respectively; a resilient bush 4a, 4b, inserted under radial compression between the sleeves 2, 13; and a spring axial thrust bearing 15 comprising a first collar 16 secured in use to the moving component 14, a second collar 21 secured in use to the fixed part 29, an intermediate stiffening plate 17, Fig. 4 (not shown), having a bearing surface provided with a friction-reducing material 22, Fig. 4 (not shown), and a layer of resilient material 18 between the collars 16, 21, the axial thrust bearing 15 being axially spaced from the resilient bush 4a, 4b. Fig. 1 shows the pivot bearing being used to support a swinging arm 14 in a vehicle wheel suspension. Each of two axial thrust bearings 15, as best seen in Fig. 4 (not shown) includes a vulcanized-on plate 17 with a surface of p.t.f.e./ sintered bronze, a press-fitted collar, and an integral lip seal. The resilient bush 4a, 4b as best seen in Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) provides different spring rates in the vertical and horizontal directions by means of flattened portions (10) and blind recesses (8). The inner and outer sleeves 2, 13 are arranged to be concentric under load by providing an initial eccentricity as shown at (4<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 3. |
