Cutting instrument, esp. (safety) razor blade, has strip(s) of amorphous alloy (I) of 60-70 (wt)% Fe-4-10% Ni, 10-20 % Cr, Mo and/or W and 5-15% metalloid(s), pref. P,B,C, Al,S,Si,Ga,Ge,As,Se and/or Te. The cutting edge(s) have a (firmly) adhering coating of a solid fluorocarbon polymer (II), pref. PTFE. MFR. is simple and the quality is better, since embrittlement of NiFe alloys on sintering the (II) coating is avoided. The (II) coating is pref. heated to a temp. of min 330 degrees C to a value above its m.pt. In an example blades produced from an alloy of 68% Fe, 4% Ni,4% Cr,2% Co, 12% Mo and 10% metalloids, with coatings of fluorocarbon telomer and PTFE, were heated rapidly, kept 8-30 min at 345-357 degrees C and chilled. Embrittlement occurred after 30 min at 371 degrees C or over but not at 343 degrees C.
|
