The double-rotor windmill has the rotors on vertical and parallel axes for conversion of wind power into mechanical or electrical energy. The wind is directed by the housing solely onto the active rotor blades and the cross-sectional area of the inlet for the wind is many times that over which it acts on the rotors. The inlet cross-section automatically remains at right angles to the wind direction. There may be a central screen preventing the wind from acting on the blades inside the housing, and directing it towards the active ones. The axis of the power generator drive shaft can coincide with that on which the housing slews, and it can be coupled direct to one of the rotor shafts to which the other one is geared.
|
