<p>The system maintains a bicycle pedal in a position allowing easy insertion of the rider's foot in the stirrup. Weight or magnetic action is used to keep the pedal in a horizontal position with its support face upwards, at least for the quarter-revolution after it passes top dead centre. There may be movable or pivoting components forming part of the stirrup etc. When the foot is removed, these are moved so as to bring the centre of gravity of the assembly to a point below and to the side of the pedal in the normal position for use.</p> |
