Centrifugally casting killed steel round ingot - with rimming steel properties by magnetically rotating the solidified core

Prepn. comprises imposing on the already solidified metal crust a rotational velocity of >200 rpm at least in the neighbourhood of the solidification front, about the axis of the ingot mould, wrt. the liquid steel which is about to solidify. The rotation is effected by means of a magnetic field perpendicular to the mould axis. A skin quality similar to that obtd. with steel can be produced, permitting steel with such quality to be cast continuously.
