External cooling fan for electric motor - draws air upwards through holes in housing and over stator coils

The electric motor has a fan (9) mounted at one end outside the top housing (8) that covers the stator's (12) winding overhand (16A). Cooling air is drawn in through holes in the bottom housing (7) that covers the stator's lower winding overhang. The two housings are supported on the stator assembly by legs (11) extending axially parallel. The fan is attached to the shaft that carries the rotor (3). The air travels axially parallel up over the outside of the stator assembly and is drawn out through holes in the upper housing by the fan.
