A transverse axis tomograph employs a detector which embraces all the useful radiation beam transmitted from a primary collimator towards the body under examination. This collimator defines the beam for irradiating the body. A rotating anode (3) of an x-ray tube (1) emits a beam (15) towards a primary collimator (10) comprising two stages (11, 12) formed by parallel plates opaque to x-rays. Openings (13, 14) in the plates determine the beam shape (16) for irradiating the body (0). A two stage (21, 22) secondary collimator (20) receives radiation (26) passing through the body for measurement by a detector (8, 9) comprising a scintillator (8) and photo-multiplier (9). Output from this detector is processed (30) with information from a reference scintillator (5) in the primary collimator.
|
