摘要 1,197,431. Hand shears; handle fixings. SPEARWELL TOOLS Ltd. 29 Aug., 1967 [31 May, 1966], No. 24127/66. Headings B4B and B4K. In a hand tool, e.g. gardening shears, pruners and wire cutters, comprising a pair of handles to which are attached a pair of tangs, the tangs being pivotally connected by a pivot assembly, the handles 10 are formed of a synthetic plastic e.g. polypropylene and are each provided, extending from a shoulder 12 thereon, with a passage for the reception of a tang 14, Fig. 8, of a blade 15, the passage being eccentrically formed in the handle, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, and the handle being sufficiently deformable under heat and/or pressure for either of the tangs to be insertable in the passage during manufacture of the tool. In making the hand tool, the handle is first heated to soften the synthetic plastic. It is then mounted on a jig which has a protrusion which fits closely into a bore 22 in the handle. The tang of the blade is then forced into the passage in the handle. A rivet 20 on the handle will register with a hole 19 in the tang so that the handle can be riveted to the tang. After the assembled handle and blade have been removed from the jig, the bore 22 is closed by a plug 24. When the blade tangs have been forced into their respective handles, the tangs are fastened together by a pivot assembly which is located in the tang holes 17 and in the well or wells formed by the handle holes 18. Instead of applying heat to the handle, the heat remaining in the moulding may be utilized.
