1,244,264. Splicing yarns. BURLINGTON INDUSTRIES Inc. 4 Dec., 1969 [13 Dec., 1968], No. 59319/69. Addition to 1,208,366. Heading D1W. In a modification of the yarn-splicing apparatus described in the parent Specification, the blade (184) of a cutter 100" in the slot 64" extends inwardly from the periphery of the drum 50" parallel to and spaced from the opposite wall of the slot and has a V-shaped cutting edge behind which the tails (E, E') of the spliced yarns are positioned and then severed as the splice is removed from the slot. The drive motor 38" for the drum is carried on one side of a plate member 127 on the other side of which the drum is detachably supported on its periphery between a friction drive wheel 48" and a pair of rollers 146, 148, rotatably supported by a pivoted, spring-loaded arm 39": motor 38" is energised according to the operation of a microswitch 62" under the pressure of overlapping yarn ends held in the passage. The drum comprises radial slot 64" which aligns with a radial slot 166 in a removably supported sleeve 160 to enable yarn ends to be slipped into the sleeve bore 164 which constitutes a yarn passage 66" with a discharge opening at the centre of the drum being defined by a radial part 172. The sleeve also includes a circumferential slot 174, extending at least between the slot 166 and port 172, which is exposed when the sleeve is positively removed from the drum to assist threading of the drum with wrapping thread. |
