<p>A process for the heat sterilisation of fluids or solid materials such as infused solns., biological solns., preserves for foodstuffs, in sealed containers, is carried out continuously in one passage. In the heating zone the containers pass through compressed, satd. steam, and they are transferred from this zone through an atmos. of non-condensing gas, such as hot air, which being specifically lighter, separates the steam in the hot zone from the cooling agent in the cool zone, and serves to compensate the pressure difference between the two. The process is carried out in a continuous run through a plant which prevents mixing of the sterilising and cooling media with each other or the compensating gas. No sluice is required inside installation.</p> |
