Two-high rolling mill - where chocks are fitted with round journals subjected to hydraulic clamping pressure

Rolling mill, esp. a two-high mill, has interchangeable rolls mounted in chocks fitted with round journals sliding in guides (I) in the stand windows, the upper roll being hydraulically compensated and radial adjustment provided by four pressure-spindles acting on the upper (I); one roll is axially adjustable. The novelty is that the lower guides butt against thrust pads mounted on the stands near the lower traverse and, on the free side of the frame, on both sides of the chocks, pivot-clamps are used to clamp (I) parallel to the longitudinal axes of the rolls. Each pivot-clamp is pref. mounted on the frame and provided with a locking bolt. Better dimensional tolerances are obtd. on the rolled prod. by improved radial and axial stiffness of the mill without overloading the roll bearings; automatic thickness control of the prod. can be used and the rolls easily interchanged.
