Hydrocarbon coating of metals and carbon materials, partic. fibres - by application of acrylamide (co)polymer and pyrolysis

Hydrocarbon coatings on carbon materials or metals are obtd. by application of a non-ionic, cationic or anionic acrylamide polymer to the material and subsequent pyrolysis. Aq. solns. or H2O-in-oil emulsions of acrylamide polymers can be used. They can contain organic or inorganic additives in powder form which are then incorporated in the hydrocarbon layer after pyrolysis. Examples are polyacrylonitrile, petroleum coke, graphite, C black, phenolfromaldehyde. Used for protective coating of metals and C materials such as C fibres, electrodes, C foams, etc. and also to improve adhesion of C fibres to lastics in which they are used as reinforcement giving better interlaminar.
