Aromatic bisurethanes are prepared by reacting, in the presence of a catalyst consisting essentially of palladium and a Lewis acid, carbon monoxide, organic hydroxyl-containing compounds, and aromatic dinitro compounds in a concentration of not more than 60 weight per cent based upon. the total weight of dinitro compound and hydroxyl compound, said reaction being conducted in two steps, the reaction temperature in the first step being between 130‹ C. and 175‹ C. and the reacting temperature in the second step being between 160‹ C. and 230‹ C., the reaction pressure being at least 1000 p.s.i. in both steps. |
