Direct determination of beta cholesterin content of blood serum - by adding weak polycation and extracting with weak cation exchanger based on beta and alpha lipoprotein

The serum is added to a weak polycation and subsequently extracted with a weak cation exchanger of beta and alpha lipoprotein. The cholesterin content of the beta lipoprotein is then measured. Pref. polyethylenium is used as the polycation which is used in quantities of 1-2 wt. % and the cation exhanger contains a carboxyl group. The method matches the accuracy of the ultra-centrifuging process whilst remaining an economical, relatively rapid method suitable for routine use.
