Defelting treatment fluid - contains reactive copolymers and amino silanes to give a rapid and continuous process

Defelting of woollens, and fabrics wiht a wood content is effected by immersion in a finishing fluid with water, removal of surplus fluid followed by drying, heating and decating. Reactive copolymers are added to the watery treatment fluid, based on unsaturated ethylene compounds contg. reactive groups of N-methylol or with 1-3C alcohols ether-treated N-methylol groups, together with catalystic quantities of amino silanes. Process gives a simple, rapid and continuous treatment of woollens which prevents felting, without affecting the surface handle. The material shrinks minimally and on being machine-washed, there is little pilling or snagging. Soil release agents can also be used without affecting the stability of the treatment fluid.
