1479360 Magnetic write and magnetoresistive read head INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 5 Aug 1975 [19 Aug 1974] 32607/75 Heading G5R A combined magnetic write head and magneto-resistive read head which co-operates with a record medium 221 is largely fabricated by layer deposition. The head includes a ferrite shielding base 210, a permalloy layer 211 for shielding the magnetoresistive stripe of the read head, a first layer of dielectric 222 which can be silicon dioxide, a magnetic-resistive stripe 220 comprising a layer 215 of magnetically hard bias material, a high resistivity layer 216 of, e.g. Schott glass and a magnetic-resistive layer 217 of permalloy. Conductors (not shown) of, e.g. copper or gold are then applied to the magnetoresistive stripe followed by deposition of a second layer of dielectric 222 and a second shielding layer 224 or permalloy which also forms one leg of the magnetic write head. Following deposition of a third layer 225 of dielectric, conductors 228 are deposited to provide a multi-turn bifilar winding for the write head followed by the deposition of a fourth layer 225 of dielectric and a third layer 241 of permalloy which forms the second leg of the write head and extends at one edge through a slot formed in the dielectric layer 225 into contact with the permalloy layer 224. |
