1500844 Fluted intermedullary nail SAMPSON CORP 27 Feb 1976 [12 Jan 1976] 07791/76 Heading A5R An intermedullary nail comprises a relatively short, wide part 12 and a relatively long, narrow part 11. The parts both have longitudinal flutes 24, 15 that extend beyond their ends and terminate in cutting edges 16. Inclined ports 17 may be provided at the base of each cutting edge to remove bone chippings into the hollow interiors of the parts. The parts may be formed integrally or separately in which case they can be connected with the aid of extension 19 as shown in Fig. 6, and by electrowelding as shown in Fig. 4. A cap 26 may be provided. The flutes may incline rearwardly at their rear ends. A onepiece or two-piece guide nose 13 may be provided and the part 11 may have a radius of curvature of 127cm. |
