摘要 <p>1479373 Alternative systems of working DAIMLER-BENZ AG 22 April 1975 [30 April 1974] 16603/75 Heading F1B An internal combustion engine is operable with fossil fuel supplied through a passage 2 from a reservoir 3 which is also connected to a fuelcracking carburetter 5 connected by a passage 12 to a hydride hydrogen accumulator 13 which is connected in turn to the engine by a passage 14, whereby the engine can be operated with lean hydrogen/air mixture or a hydrogen/fuel-gas/air mixture when driving in built-up areas and can be operated on fossil fuel, using an approximately stoichiometric mixture when driving in open country. The cracking carburetter 5 may contain a catalyst. The reservoir 13 is provided with a heat exchanger 19 through which a coolant is circulated to promote absorption of hydrogen and through which a heating medium is circulated to promote release of hydrogen. Mechanically linked valves 15, 16 and 17 are opened and closed simultaneously. When the valves are open, the engine operates on fuel from tank 3 and fuel also passes to carburetter 5. Decomposition products from the carburetter pass to reservoir 13, where the hydrogen is absorbed, the remainder of the gases being fed to the engine through passage 14. When the valves are completely closed, the engine runs on hydrogen drawn from reservoir 13. Valve 15 may be slightly open when valves 16 and 17 are closed so that some fossil fuel is supplied directly to the engine. In addition to fuel, carburetter 5 is supplied with air and/or water.</p>
