<p>1379186 Fabric softening composition COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO 24 July 1973 [25 July 1972 (2)] 35249/73 Heading C5D [Also in Division D1] A particulate fabric softening composition for use in compounding detergent compositions comprises (a) a phosphorus ester salt of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is C 14-20 alkyl, m is 1-6 and M is alkali metal or ammonium, (b) a phosphorus ester salt of formula and (c) 5-100% based on the total weight of phosphorus ester salt of finely divided silica, the phosphorus ester salt mixture having a melting or softening point below 45‹ C. The composition may also include a C 6-10 alkyl or di-C 6-10 alkyl phosphate salt. Four methods of preparation of the composition are disclosed: (1) the ingredients are mixed wet and then dried, (2) the silica is mixed with the phosphorus ester acids which are then neutralized, e.g. with sodium carbonate, soda ash or sodium hydroxide to provide their salts, (3) the phosphorus ester acids, are neutralized with sodium silicate simultaneously providing the finely divided silica and (4) a mixed bed comprising silica and neutralizing agent is sprayed with phosphorus ester acid. In examples, the C 6-10 alkyl groups are 2-ethyl-n-hexyl.</p> |
