[Also in Division H2] Articles such as plates of pre-cooked food to be heated are transported in succession through a microwave heating compartment 1 by a conveyer 7 and either one, or both, of the power of the radiation and speed of the conveyer is or are controlled automatically as a function of the number of articles in the compartment so that the heating energy absorbed by each article in passing through the compartment is substantially independent of the number of articles in the heating compartment. Sensors 8, 8a, and 9, 9a allow for the generation of a count signal, which is a function of the number of articles between the sensors and means responsive to the count signal provides the automatic control (see Division H2). With no articles on the conveyer the magnetism is completely cut off. The conveyer speed is also variable manually, for when differing foods are to be heated, for example.
