1,194,444. Granulating metals. HOMOGENEOUS METALS Inc. Nov.6, 1968 [Dec. 15, 1967], No. 52566/68. Heading C7X. Metal is placed in a crucible 23, through an access door 17, and the crucible raised to an induction coil 22 to melt the metal, a material, e.g. hydrogen, having a vapour pressure higher than that of the metal is dissolved in the metal by introducing it under pressure into the chamber 10, and the crucible is raised further to cause the molten metal to be forced up a pipe 26 into a low pressure chamber 30, where it forms into drops, which are cooled to form a powder. The opening into the chamber 30 is normally closed by a trap door 36. In a modification a high vapour pressure metal, e.g. zinc, may be used to cause the explosive effect in a lower vapour pressure metal. |
