<p>A machine for treating and stretching skins and hides consists of a perforated box ahead of the treatment tools over which a soft and permeable belt can be reciprocated from a pair of drums underneath. The belt is made of textile or plastics matl. or of an elastomer with many meshes or openings for free air permeability. When the skin or hide is first applied a vacuum can be generated in the perforated box for good retention. This stretches even very thin skins or hides in a desirable way. The third operator, needed to hold the centre of a hide back to prevent the formation of folds under the rollers, is saved. The perforated vacuum box can be subdivided into different compartments, each with its own exhaust turbine, to suit special conditions.</p> |
