The flexible pipe is joined to the fitting by first inserting the tapered sleeve which expands the bore of the pipe. A locking sleeve is then placed over the pipe and axially compressed by screwing up a nut. This deformation causes the teeth on the end of the locking sleeve to bite into the tube and make a secure joint. The locking sleeve is formed from a strip of moulded plastic with slots forming parallel tongues along one edge. These tongues are provided with transverse serrations. The sleeve is rolled to cylindrical form and held in this shape by a tag at one end fitting in a slot at the other end.
