<p>Plant comprises a set of horizontal troughs set in stepped paralle, cascade formation so that liq. flows along each trough and overflows at the end into the next trough below. Each trough is provided with stirrers and conveyor blades to push prod. along the trough counter-current to the flow of liq. As prod. approaches the end of each trough a scoop bails it up to the next trough above via the latter's overflow. The prod. is pref. foodstuff in the form of curds which is washed with a liq. eluent. The stirrers, conveyor blades and scoop of each trough are pref. fitted on a common, rotary shaft extending axially of the trough; all troughs shafts have a common drive with the scoops angularly staggered from trough to trough. Completely continuous, counter-current action over the full path of both gravity flow liq. and power conveyed prod. is achieved. Optimum conditions can be set quite independent of gravity flow.</p> |
