A continuous process for producing distillate fuels from oil shale involves heating particulate shale in a retort and passing hydrocarbon oil vapours and gases from the retort to a fractionating zone yielding a light overhead stream, including hydrocarbon gases, water and ammonia, and heavier oil condensate which is pumped at 100-250 psi via a heater, wherein it is raised to cracking temp (850-950 degrees F) to an enlarged cracking and coking reactor. Oil vapours and gases from the reactor are passed to a dephlegmotor yielding an overhead fraction, composed of a pressure distillate in the boiling range of gasoline, domestic heating oils. diesel fuels and jet fuels, and a bottoms fraction which is recycled for admixt. with the condensate passing from the fractionation to the heater.
|
