Drying a compressed gas, by passage through a drying agent, incorporates blowing a fraction of the gas previously compressed and dried, through the drying agent, and periodically regenerating the agent. Each compression period is followed by a regeneration period. The periods of compression (T) and regeneration (t) are measured and t is regulated as a function of T, so that the amt. of water removed during the sum of the periods Epsilon t is equal to that absorbed during the sum of the compression periods. Epsilon T. The periods are measured by the counting of the pulses emitted for that purpose and recorded for the periods T as positive at the rate of one impulse per n seconds and for the periods t as negative at the rate of one impulse per nk' seconds. k' is the constant in the equation Epsilon t - k' Epsilon t, determined experimentally from v = kQ where Q = vol. of gas in the compressed state, v= that of the gas required for regeneration, at the press. at which regeneration takes place, the gas flows being constant. The regeneration is stopped when the two counts of impulses cancel one another.
|
