Ink applicator is intended for an intaglio type printing press comprising a cylindrical printing surface (35) with recesses for printing lines, a container (10) for viscous ink, means for feeding ink from the container to the recesses with minimum deposit between the recesses consisting of an orifice (3) with two blades (153,155) and means pressurising the container with blades into sealing contact with the surface. The second blade (155) has a substantial thickness in circumferential direction and tapes in the direction of cylinder rotation to create a space into which the ink is moved by rotation of the cylinder so that it fills the recesses, whilst this blade at the same time removes the greater part of the ink deposited on the cylinder surface areas between the recesses.
