The catalyst has an apparent porosity of 30-60%, a bulk density of 1.2-2.0, a pore radius of 0.5-5.0 microns and a crushing strength of 120-500 Kg/cm<SP>2</SP>. The Al 2 O 3 content of the refractory powder is preferably above 65% and may be a refractory alumina cement consisting essentially of calcium aluminate or a powder prepared by heating a mixture of CaO and Al 2 O 3 at 1600- 2000‹C. An organic binding agent and/or a foaming agent may be added to the refractory powder or mixture before kneading. |
