<p>1478634 Slicing meat GORTON CORP 11 July 1974 [30 July 1973] 30811/74 Heading A4C Apparatus for cutting slices of frozen meat from a column of meat comprises an upper tableassembly 11 having vertical tubes 21 to contain the meat-columns, rotary knives 59 below the upper table-assembly for cutting slices from the lower end of the meat-columns, and a lower tableassembly 12 below the knives including a shoe 50 which supports each slice as it is cut, means 41 being provided for removing the slice from the shoe. The upper table-assembly is stationary and carries a motor 26 and a fixed sun-gear 33 meshing with planet-gears 61 driving diametrically-opposed knife-assemblies 46, 47 carried on opposite ends of a support bar 45 keyed to the motor-shaft 28, the bar 45 and the bearings 63 for the knives being rotatable bodily with the lower table-assembly 12. The shoes 50 each comprise a springy flange secured below the table 12, by bolts or rivets, and having an inclined surface parallel to the bevelled lower cutting-surface of the knife; the slice is thus clamped between these two surfaces during cutting whereby curling of the slice is prevented. Pivoted sprags 41 are suspended from the upper table assembly in the path of each cut-slice, to hold the slice during cutting and thereafter to push it off the flange as the table 12 rotates. The sprag 41 is pushed downwardly by the knife-bevel during further rotation but is restored to its initial position by a second flange (51, not shown), integral with the table and diametrically on the opposite side of the knife from the flange 50. In alternative embodiments (not illustrated), the lower table 12 may be stationary, or the blades may be non-driven.</p> |
