1511409 Position encoding PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 17 Dec 1976 [22 Dec 1975] 52772/76 Heading H3H [Also in Division H1] A switch for supplying binary coded information in direct and complementary values by its instantaneous electrical connections, and which may be constructed as in Specification 954,362, for example, comprises a printed-circuit board 12, one side of which is provided with fixed contact tracks and connection tracks 24 to 32, and a switching disc (not shown) of insulating material rotatable about an axis 113 to any one of a plurality of switching positions, the said disc having at least two groups of interconnected contact spring fingers, 104, 105, 106 and 107, 108, 109, for example, cooperating with the fixed contact tracks, all the contact points of each group, as 15, 16, 17 and 18, 19, 20, being on a straight line intersecting axis 113, and to simplify the pattern of the printed circuitry the groups are arranged such that the ratio of the angle between them to the angle between successive switching positions is an integral power of 2. As shown in Fig. 1 there are twelve switching positions 0 ... 11 and three groups of finger contacts spaced at 120 degrees such that the angle between any two groups is (2)<SP>2</SP> times the switching angle. In another arrangement (Figure 2, not shown) there are ten switching positions and three unequal contact groups at spacings of (2)<SP>2</SP>, (2)<SP>2</SP> and 2 times the switching angle; but in a third embodiment (Figure 3, not shown) with ten switching positions and three unequal contact groups the spacings are (2)<SP>2</SP>, 3 and 3 times the switching angle, only one ratio being an integral power of 2. |
