1478555 Apparatus for continuous froth flotation AGENCY OF INDUSTRIAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY 8 Sept 1975 [12 Sept 1974] 36930/75 Heading ClC An apparatus for continuous flotation and separation of froth, comprises: (1) a vertically elongate column; (2) at least one stepped shelf disposed inside said column, each said stepped shelf consisting of a plate inclined with reference to the horizon and having a construction such that the lower edge of the inclined plate adjoins the side wall of the column or the lower edge of an adjacent inclined plate so as to preclude possible stagnation of a gaseous substance on the underside thereof and the upper edge of the inclined plate forms an empty space constituting a vertical passage; (3) a froth separator disposed in the head portion of the column; (4) a raw water inlet pipe opening within the column and above at least one of said plurality of stepped shelves; (5) a treated water outlet pipe disposed on the bottom of the column and (6) a gas dispersing unit disposed below the lowermost one of said stepped shelves. The apparatus is suitable for removal of suspended substances, surface active substances and heavy metals from waste water, the removal being on bubbles where said extraneous substances are deposited by adsorption or adhesion. In an example the removal of polyoxyethylene nonylphenyl ether is described. |
