1291347 Stabilized silica sols E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 8 May 1970 [8 May 1969] 22487/70 Heading C1A An aqueous silica sol of surface area 500- 1500 m.<SP>2</SP>/gram, containing up to 30 wt. per cent SiO 2 , and having mole ratio SiO 2 : alkali metal oxide greater than 5:1 is stabilized by a combination of (i) at least one non-aromatic organic compound which consists of C, H and O, contains at least two oxygenated atoms per molecule as -OH or ether groups and has water solubility of at least 1 wt. per cent at 25‹ C. and (ii) at least one water-soluble inorganic or organic monoacid base (K b >10<SP>-5</SP>) in an amount such that the pH of the sol is 10À0-11À5. Specified organic substances are sucrose, dextrose, levulose, glucose, ethylene glycol, glycerol and ethylene glycol dimethyl ether. |
