Removal of oil from compressed gas - in refrigeration circuits by bubbling the gas through liquid coolant

Oil is removed from compressed gas by bubbling the gas through liq. coolant in a plate column. Part of the oil is scrubbed and the rest condenses due to reduction in the partial press. of the vapour as the temp. falls. The mixt. of liq. coolant and oil is fractionated to recover oil and coolant. Used to remove oil from compressed gas, esp. gas used as coolant in refrigeration. Oil is esp. a problem in ammonia systems.
