1458268 Paper-making BELOIT CORP 21 Feb 1974 [21 Feb 1973] 7981/74 Heading D2A To manufacture paper having two or more layers the first layer is deposited from a headbox 11 onto a rectilinear section 5 of a foraminous belt 4, and the or each subsequent layer is formed on the foraminous outer surface of a respective rotating forming cylinder 22 before being transferred onto the layer(s) on the belt 4, there being a suction box 65 immediately downstream of the region of contact between the belt 4 and the cylinder 22 to assist in dewatering the first layer, to assist in detaching the layer from the cylinder 22 and to assist in adhering the layers together. The cylinder 22 as shown houses suction boxes 61, 62, a wetting box 63, and an air jet blowing device 64. Nozzles 71 spray washing water onto the surface of cylinder 22 and doctor blades 68 are provided to clean the cylinder. The cylinder 22 may be mounted as part of a unit 21 which can be raised or lowered by lifting devices 26, for maintenance purposes. The unit 21 includes a headbox including adjustable pivotally mounted slice lip portions 45, 47 to allow control of the size of the slice opening. |
