[Also in Division H4] A source of phase incoherent microwave radiation comprises a gas discharge tube in which the discharge includes a positive column and within the tube envelope a coaxial waveguide comprising a plurality of insulated sections 4 to 12, The tube comprises a glass envelope 1 sealed to a waveguide connector flange 2 having a mica window 3. Metallic sections 4 to 12 of differing lengths are secured by three ceramic rods 13 and spaced by glass tubes 14, 15. A glass funnel 16 extends from the envelope into the first section. The tube is filled with neon at a pressure of 1 to 20 torr. and a potential applied between an oxidic cathode 17 and section 12. The source can be used in nuclear magnetic resonance investigations. |
