<p>In the treatment of skins and hides for the purpose of tanning, liming and dyeing, a gas is introducd in the pit so tha the process takes place at a pressure above atmospheric. The gas pressure is chosen to be higher than the vapour pressure of the fluid contained in the pit. The pressure treatment was found to result in =50% time savings compared with conventional processes at atmospheric pressure. The quality of the leather did not suffer in any respect.</p> |
