<p>While the thread is being wound onto the winding mandrel (2) of the winding appliance, the thread (4) is guided by a traversing device (3) moving the latter to and fro in the longitudinal direction of the winding mandrel (2). At the end of the winding operation, a thread guide (8, 13) is pivoted in between the traversing device (3) and the winding mandrel (2) and is guided non-displaceably in the longitudinal direction of the winding mandrel, so that the thread end is wound around the finished ball by this thread guide essentially in a single plane transverse to the longitudinal direction of the winding mandrel in spite of the to-and-fro movement caused by the traversing device (3). The free thread end consequently cannot easily unwind from the finished ball. <IMAGE></p> |
