<p>The centrifuge has an open top and consists of a cylindrical shell (12) tapering to the bottom (14) which is attached to a hollow shaft (16). The hollow shaft extends upwards into the cylindrical shell as four supports (18) carrying a conical distributing head (20) with twelve radial grooves (24). The hollow shaft (16) is driven by the electric motor, and seated in ball bearings (25) in the motor housing (28). The inlet pipe (36) supplies the dross on top of the head. The grooves accelerate the dross and eject it towards the inner surface of the shell, and separation takes place. The heavier substance slips down the conical walls to the hollow shaft, and the lighter substance rises until it reaches the circular groove (46) where it is scavenged by a radial pipe (48).</p> |
