Radio fitted inside ball point pen - has miniaturised receiver unit and battery with two position ear plug socket on top for band selection

The pen is fitted with a ball point cartridge in the front portion of its casing. This cartridge can be extended or retracted by means of a threaded plug fitted internally around it. The rear portion (8) of the casing houses a radio receiver (17). This is a miniatuarised encapsulated unit, having one end pressed against a mercury type battery (6) by a spring (9) inside the top cap (10). Two wires (14) feed a socket (11) mounted in this top cap, the programmes being heard through an ear plug (12) with extension wires (13). The socket has two positions (15) enabling a choice of two bands to be made.
