1,196,882. Change-speed control. DR.-ING. h.c.F. PORSCHE K.G. 17 Feb., 1969 [28 March, 1968], No. 8385/69. Heading F2D. In a motor-vehicle change-speed gear shift mechanism in which a manual shift lever (not shown) is moved in a three channel H-type gate (not shown) to slide and turn a rod 2 for gear selection and establishment respectively, for five forward speeds and reverse, the slide-andturn rod 2 carries a spring-centralized sleeved stop lug 9, 10, slidably keyed at 16 thereon, which selectively engages a stepped locking segment 11 fast on the transmission housing 7 to limit gear selection, i.e. axial movement of the rod 2, to single stages between the three channels (R/I; II/III ; IV/V) of the gate, i.e. one channel to the next, whereby over-shifting through the channels is prevented. The sleeved stop lug 9, 10 engages one or other steps 14, 15 of the locking segment 11 and is centralized on the rod 2 between opposing springs 17, 17<SP>1</SP> seated at their outer ends on a plate 18 and selector arm 3 such that axial movement of the rod 2 overcomes the bias of one or other spring 17 to engage. the spring seat 18 or arm 3 with the stationed stop lug sleeve 9 whereby the shift rod 2 is singly moved between channels for gear selection, rotation of the rod 2 for gear establishment in the selected channel releasing the spring loaded stop lug 10 from the locking segment 11 whereby the stop lug 10 is centrally re-established on the rod 2, i.e. moves to the next lock stop for similar operation for the next channel shift. |
