<p>Process comprises fragmentation of the elements by cutting up or slicing flame cutting or cutting into chips. Subsequent treatment of the elements up to packing, storage and/or regeneration is carried out by known compression equipment, pref. presses. Alternatively this last treatment is carried out by fusion of the elements using known equipment. Process can be carried out economically within the nuclear power plant, using existing safety and auxiliary system and readily added or inserted treatment systems. The treatment of the elements subsequent to their compression up to the stage of packing, storage and or regeneration may be carried out (i) by low temp. freezing and subsequent fragmentation in the frozen state followed by compression and pref. subsequent chemical treatment of (ii) by chamical techniques of (iii) by fusion. Pre-treatment is pref. followed by a decontamination.</p> |
