<p>The junction linking a cable (1) and connector (19, 27) is intended to provide protection against fluids under pressure around the cable and is partic. applicable to submarine cables. All voids in the cable (a) and junction are filled with some elastic material such that damage to the sheath or sheaths does not result in fluid ingress along the cable. The design includes a collar (21) to prevent ingress while a damaged cable is being brought to the surface and pressure on the elastic filling is reduced. The collar is in the form of one or more annular clips around the sheath and an internal plastic frame preventing twisting of the conductors.</p> |
